General description: Although Skipper is eighteen- and boy is he glad- he looks younger, maybe sixteen. His light brown hair is very thick, and people often ruffle it up just to annoy him. He has long legs, but an unusually short torso, which makes buying clothes a real hassle.

Friends: Skipper tends to be one of the popular people who don't really care about much. He likes people, but doesn't need them to survive. He enjoys people that like to swim and race him in boats.
General personality: Most of his free time, Skipper is out on the lake, swimming or boating, but he loves a good party also. He's a slacker, and his grades in school are awful, but he doesn't care because he plans to become the grocer when Tom retires. He's an easy person to get along with, but if someone annoys him, he won't hesitate to let them know. He doesn't hold grudges, and easily forgets. He's a big flirt as well in the right circumstances, but he always pesters people to go boating with him. For reasons unknown to him, a few people don't like him, mainly because he is popular amongst the teenage crowd.

Technology: Skipper is the proud owner of a Nintendo DS, and spends a lot of time playing it when it is raining. He has a cell-phone also, although the reception in Ellesmere isn't that great.
Pets: As he is alllergic to animals, Skipper doesn't like pets. He does consider the fish in the lake his pets, although he eats them often.

Family:
Catarina van Bruggen is Skipper's mother, and he is a fairly good son, treating her with affection and respect, although the two don't share very many interests. He tries to look after her as best as he can as she grows older. She is a nurse.
Isaak van Bruggen, Skipper's father, and Skipper constantly argue. Isaak thinks his son should do better in school, and had hopes that Skipper would go to college. However, the two share a passion for water, and all their differences are forgotten when they're on the lake. He is a fisherman.
Uncle Tom is Skipper's father's older brother, and the two get along like fire and oxygen. Skipper admires his uncle, and wants to take over his store when he retires. He runs the general store.
History:
Skipper has never spent a night out of Ellesmere, and doesn't usually regret this, being perfectly content with his small town. In his life, the family has moved once- from one side of the town to the other. When he was seven, his mother Catarina took him to a stable a few miles out from Ellesmere. Skipper didn't understand that the horses were real, and in the process of winding a piece of string around one of their legs, he was kicked rather severely in the head and had to take a week off school. He has feared horses ever since. A year later, Skipper was out on the lake with his father, and fell off the boat. He got caught in a long strand of algae, and nearly drowned. However, although he stayed away from the horses, he went back to the lake the next day and taught himself how to swim.
Skipper had always done fairly well in school, but when he hit high school, the work grew more demanding, and Skipper got bored and decided not to put so much effort into his work. Since then, he hasn't done any homework, and the only subject he has received over a C in is science.
