Sabine wandered the silent corridors of the high school, her mind blank as she peered into the separate, desolate classrooms. The place looked exactly the same, yet completely different at the same time. Maybe it was the lack of teachers and pupils, no pages turning feverishly, no metalwork machines drilling shrilly, no stools scraping back to retrieve a dropped book. No moody teachers lashing out at the slightest invitation. She had to hide a grin when she passed the room of their old Home Economics teacher, the crabbiest in the school. Maybe this strange vanishing thing wasn't all bad. She found herself outside the computer room, a long green thing with rows and rows of out-of-date monitors. She felt an uneasy pang. Would the electricity still be going? There may be a little in reserve but that would soon run out. She opened the door and settled down in front of her assigned computer; exactly the same as the others but with MARY LOVES ADAM S inscribed on the tower. She pressed the on button and was rewarded with the familiar hum as the machine booted up. She flicked back an emerald strand of hair and glanced at the door as it opened with a small creak in some alarm. "Who is it?" she called. ((how was it? )
